Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Vismayan (“we”) collects when students and parents use Vismayan, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. Most of our users are under 18, so we treat every account as a child’s account unless it belongs to a parent.

In short

  • We use your data only to teach, plan your studies, keep the service safe, and handle payments and support.
  • No ads, no selling or renting of personal data, no advertising trackers, no public profiles, and no messaging between students.
  • Students under 18 need a parent’s verified consent before we process their questions, photos or voice.
  • Parents see effort, progress and topics — never their child’s conversations with the tutor.
  • Voice recordings are turned into text and are not kept. You can download or delete your data from your Profile at any time.

1. Who we are

We are the data fiduciary for the personal data described here. To reach us, use our contact page.

2. What we collect

Account details

  • Mobile number (to sign in with a one-time code), name, class, target exam and year, daily study time and language preference.
  • If you choose “Continue with Google”: your name and email address from Google.

Parent details

  • For students under 18: the parent’s mobile number used to confirm consent, and a record of that consent (date, method and policy version).
  • For parent accounts: name, mobile number, linked children and, if provided, an email address for weekly reports.

Learning activity

  • Answers, practice and test responses, time spent, mastery estimates, mistakes, flashcard reviews and your study plan.
  • Questions you ask the AI tutor, including follow-up questions about solution steps.
  • Photos of problems you upload. We remove location and camera metadata before storing them.
  • Voice questions: your recording is converted to text and then discarded — we keep the text, just like a typed question. Audio we generate when an answer is read aloud contains only the AI teacher’s voice.

Payments

  • Payments are processed by our payment partner (Razorpay). We keep the plan, amount, status and reference IDs. We never see or store card, UPI or bank details.

Technical data

  • Basic device and browser information in security logs, and a one-way scrambled form of your IP address used to stop abuse and to record consent.
  • Only essential cookies and local storage: keeping you signed in, your language and theme, and offline flashcard reviews. We use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. How we use it

  • To answer doubts, adapt practice to your level, build your daily plan and show your progress.
  • To keep the service safe: automated checks on questions and answers, and caring support with helpline information if a message suggests someone may be in distress.
  • To send parents a dashboard and an optional weekly summary of effort and topics (never message content).
  • To take payments, provide receipts, answer support requests and prevent fraud.
  • To improve Vismayan using aggregated or pseudonymised information. We do not use children’s data for advertising or for profiling unrelated to learning.

4. How AI is used

The tutor, photo reading and voice features use AI models run by our technology providers. The question, photo or voice clip — with your name, class and exam so the answer fits you, but never your phone number, email or parent’s details — is sent to them to produce an answer. We choose providers whose terms do not allow them to use this data to train their models. AI answers can be wrong; full solutions for exam-track students are independently re-checked, and any answer can be reported for review by a subject expert.

5. Children and parental consent

Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, anyone under 18 is a child. Before we process a child’s questions, photos or voice, a parent or lawful guardian must confirm consent with a one-time code sent to their phone. Until then, a student can only browse study notes. A parent can withdraw consent at any time — use our contact page — and the child’s account will be locked or deleted as requested. We do not track children’s behaviour across other sites or show them targeted advertising.

6. Who we share it with

  • Service providers who help us run Vismayan — hosting and databases, AI models, SMS and email delivery, and payments — only for that purpose and under contract.
  • A linked parent, as described above.
  • Authorities, when required by law or to protect someone’s safety.

We never sell or rent personal data. Some providers may process data outside India, with contractual safeguards.

7. How long we keep it, and security

We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account we erase your questions, answers, photos, notes and study data, and remove your identity from what remains. We keep consent records and payment records — without your identity attached — for as long as the law requires. Contact-form messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve them.

Data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted and logged, and saved service keys are encrypted at rest.

8. Your rights

  • Access and download — Profile → Download my data.
  • Correction — edit your details in your Profile, or ask us.
  • Deletion — Profile → Delete account, or ask us.
  • Withdraw consent and nominate someone to act for you, as provided by law.
  • Complain to our Grievance Officer (below) and, if unresolved, to the Data Protection Board of India.

9. Grievance Officer

You can also use our contact page and choose “Privacy, consent or my data”. We will acknowledge and resolve complaints within the time required by law.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make important changes, we will tell you in the app (and ask parents to confirm again where the law requires it) before they take effect.
